Film Review - Live In Vegas
Whether it's vintage Hendrix or Phish, music DVDs set the tone
For a time, music home videos seemed headed the way of the 8-track, each year bringing only a handful of celebrated releases. Then came DVD, and the concept sprang back to life in myriad ways _ multiple angles, rare live footage, even commentary tracks for old MTV clips. Now the marketplace has been flooded by everything from old Roxy Music and Blondie performances on German television to more Neil Young films than one person ever need witness.
There's a slew for this season as well, including..
"Phish Live in Las Vegas" (WEA, $24.98) _ So you want to make that Phish-head happy but can't afford to all 16 volumes in the band's ongoing series of live triples. This and a copy of their new album "Round Room" (due Dec. 10) should suffice, even if most die-hards agree that the video quality is inferior and it wasn't the most euphoric performance from the group's Vegas stand.
