Album Review - Trey Anastasio
Holy shit, you need this CD.
OK, now that we have that out of the way, you need this CD. This is Trey Anastasio's first major label solo release (second if you count the self-released album "One Man's Trash") due to hit record store shelves on April 30.
If you were on the road and caught any of Trey's shows last summer, you know what you're in for. This album has all the jamming that Phish fans would expect but a completely new and funky groove. Armed with one of the finest bass players leading a solid rhythm section, the album also features his 4 piece horn section that he toured with. Some tracks also feature string quartets, guest jazzers, and occasionally a complete orchestra.
Clocking in at just under an hour, many of the great songs from his last tour show up. The highlights of the CD are easily the nearly 8 minute long "Push on Til the Day", first heard on Late Nite with Conan O'Brian in February 2001. The other centerpiece of the CD is the heavily jammed out 12 minute rendition of "Last Tube", kind of a response to the equally groovy Phish track "First Tube".
I could ramble on and on about this CD, but there is only so much justice words can do for sound. Ever since I got this CD 10 hours ago, it hasn't stopped playing. It probably wont for another 10 hours either.
