Album Review - Sixty Six Steps

Here's something for you rock fans: San Francisco rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are back in the thick of things with "Howl." This album takes B.R.M.C. to a different label (The UK's Echo Group) and a slightly more mature sound, further separating them from other 'new rock revolution' artists like the ever-dependable Kings of Leon or 2003's flash-in-the-pan The Strokes.

On the jam band front there are two releases of note, the first of which is Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon's "Sixty Six Steps." The pair wrote and recorded this album in Costa Rica and Jamaica and the music bears an the indelible stamp of the islands. One song of special interest is an acoustic-funk version of Aerosmith's classic "Sweet Emotion."

This week we'll also get to hear "Legion of Mary--Vol. 1" from the late, great Jerry Garcia. The Legion was an incarnation of the Jerry Garcia band that hewed to a rock-and-jazz vibe rather than bluegrass and folk.
