Album Review - Seis De Mayo

Taking leftover Phish and trying to make it sound delicious can be a tricky prospect. But Phish singer and guitarist Trey Anastasio keeps things surprisingly fresh on this solo outing, which extracts the instrumental magic from the band's jazzy, jammy rock. By stripping out parts of tunes from various albums, songs like "All Things Reconsidered" and the solo guitar piece "Inlaw Josie Wales" have been given a elegant coating of a string quartet. The appropriately titled "Guyute (Orchestral)" is a symphonic version of the tune "Guyute" from Phish's The Story of the Ghost. Anastasio originally imagined many of the Phish tunes as classical compositions when he penned them, and he shows his knack for the genre here, while retaining a familiar Phish-like playfulness. Dig in. We swear you won't get sick.
