Album Review - Round Room

Listening to this album is like reading a long sentence, in that at certain points there might be jazzy flourishes and beautiful ebbs and flows and it might sound like whoever wrote this could surely create some of the most beautiful rhythms ever - like the trickling piano and lulling guitar strokes on the first song, "Pebbles and Marbles" - then at other moments it might wander off into some never-never land and seem like the band is just jamming for jam's sake, like being distorted and off-key and pointless is OK as long as you give them more than they can stand (78 minutes), because this band is known for its live shows and you'd sure want to applaud them for bringing some of that experimentation, a lot of it, to a studio album.

But it's not OK.

People try to play these CDs.

Know when it's time to end.

In concert: Phish, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2-4 at Hampton Coliseum, Hampton. All three shows are sold out.
