Album Review - Picture of Nectar
More new wine in old bottles: PHISH (from Vermont) have
been compared to the Grateful Dead in the US, because
they jam for hours to hairy young things in tie-dyed T-
shirts and run a Dead-style computer network for their
fans, called PHISH. net. Judging from their debut album,
A Picture of Nectar, PHISH actually incline more towards
the punky Steely Dan or frantic early Genesis than to
the mellow, countrified noodlings of the Dead which is
possibly just as well. They are, at any rate, quite
startlingly adept players: Rolling Stone has even gone
so far as to call their album 'a dense encyclopaedic
monument to chops'.
