Album Review - The Story of the Ghost

During the past four years, Phish has alternated live and studio albums with results that indicate the improvisation-minded quartet should maintain the formula for the foreseeable future. Like 1996's "Billy Breathes," "The Story of the Ghost" displays Phish's newfound comfort with the recording studio, flaunting solid song craft and a range of styles (including funk, reggae and fusion) without losing the loose offhandedness of its jams. Excepting the eight-minute, 26-second wind-up of "Guyette," "Ghost" furthers Phish's development into something different in the studio than it is onstage. It's an evolution that's quite agreeable.
