Phish to split

The timing is a little odd: With a new album due June 15 and a tour set for this summer, the Vermont band Phish is calling it quits after a two-day show there in August, guitarist Trey Anastasio has announced.

"Last Friday night, I got together with Mike [Gordon], Page [McConnell] and Fish [Jon Fishman] to talk openly about the strong feelings I've been having that Phish has run its course and that we should end it now while it's still on a high note," Anastasio wrote in a message posted Tuesday on the band's website.

Turns out the other three members more or less agreed, so the group's final concert comes during "Coventry," a band-sponsored festival Aug. 14 and 15 near Coventry, Vt. Tickets for the finale are on sale now for $149.50 through www.phishtickets.rlc.net. or Ticketmaster outlets.

Although Phish has gone dormant before, Anastasio says this time is different.

"For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We're done," he wrote, before thanking fans for their support.
