A popular jam band is toast. At the end of its summer tour, Phish will split up, frontman Trey Anastasio says in a letter posted on the band's Web site (www.phish.com). The tour starts June 17 and ends Aug. 14, in Coventry, Vt. "Undermind," the band's final studio album, is scheduled for release June 15.

Anastasio made it clear that fans shouldn't cling to shreds of hope that the band is simply going on hiatus, as they did between 2000 and 2002.

"For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves," he wrote. "We're done."
