Promoters of next week's Phish concert are renting out a local radio station to provide updates on such things as traffic, as well as to broadcast the music.

Great Northeast Productions, which is running the event Aug. 12-15, is leasing the Derby radio station at 92.1 on the FM dial.

Known as WMOO, it will become "The Bunny" during the festival. It will be 92.1 FM in the Derby area and 99.3 in the St. Johnsbury area.

It officially goes on the air at 8 a.m. Aug. 12.

Dave Werlin, president of Great Northeast Productions Inc., says the radio station will operate live from the airport 24 hours a day.

There will be daily announcements about what is going on at the festival as well as daily traffic updates.

Additionally, there will be live simulcasts of the actual performances Aug. 14 and 15.

Werlin and state police are expecting upwards of 80,000 people to turn out for the Phish farewell festival.

However, less than 70,000 tickets have been sold. More will not be forthcoming. People without tickets are being asked by Werlin and state police not to attempt to attend the festival.

They will be turned back if each person in a vehicle does not have a ticket, according to state police.

In an attempt to satisfy Phish fans without tickets, there will be live, worldwide radio broadcasts, thanks to XM satellite, of the band's performances during the festival.

Fans will also be able to view Phish performing in all its glory in high-definition video and surround sound at selected movie theaters around the country.

Werlin said 50,000 theater tickets will be available.

He is hoping the live high-definition video broadcasts, as well as the XM satellite broadcasts, will take the pressure off Coventry.
