An open-air week: Phish and more

Phish returns to Utah for the first time since the touring powerhouse took a
two-year "hiatus" that had fans worried their improvisational heroes would
never tour or record again.
Instead, after the four members spent some time on individual projects,
Phish's Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman and Page McConnell gathered at
Anastasio's barn/studio just outside their hometown of Burlington, Vt., and
quickly knocked out about 20 new songs, 12 of which ended up on the recent "Round
Room" album.
While Phish's albums can be hit-or-miss affairs, the fact the quartet is
touring again is the real cause for celebration for fans. A recent set-list from
the band's Phoenix gig shows the band is grabbing songs from throughout its
career, as would be expected: "Sample in a Jar," "David Bowie," "Birds of a
Feather," "Wolfman's Brother," "Character Zero" and "Round Room's" "Walls of the
Cave" all made an appearance in the band's familiar two-sets, one-encore
performance.
