Elektra Records has set an April 29 release date for "Plasma," a double live
album featuring performances by Phish's Trey Anastasio and his band recorded
on their summer and fall 2002 tours. The album's release will coincide with a
short spring tour Anastasio has planned, for which dates have not yet been
announced.
"Plasma" will feature seven previously unreleased Anastasio compositions
alongside three Phish tunes, a cover of Bob Marley's "Small Axe," and a sole
representative song ("Night Speaks to a Woman") from the artists self-titled
2002 Elektra solo album.
Phish's official web site is basing a contest around the new
album: fans who pre-order "Plasma" from the site will be automatically
entered to win two tickets to a show of the winner's choice on Anastasio's
upcoming tour, as well as a signed poster. Three runners-up will also receive
two tickets to a show of their choice on the tour.
In other Phish touring news, Vida Blue, the side project of Phish keyboardist
Page McConnell, Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Funky Meters
drummer Russel Batiste, will play five U.S. dates in April. The group's tour
will start April 9 at Chicago's Vic Theater and wrap April 13 at Toad's Place
in New Haven, Conn., with dates in between at Columbus, Ohio's Promowest
Pavilion (April 10), Philadelphia's Electric Factory (April 11), and
Providence, R.I.'s Lupos (April 12).
And finally, Phish's concert digital downloads site, livephish.com, has been
updated to offer all 12 shows on Phish's recently wrapped winter tour,
bringing the total live recordings offered via the site to 19. Phish is
expected to return to the road this summer.
