SNL Pulls Out the Stops for Season Finale
December 7, 2002 - The Ottawa Citizen
by Staff

A welter of celebrities will be hosting the last episodes of NBC's Saturday Night Live for the year 2002, including actor Robert DeNiro, singer Norah Jones and former Vice President Al Gore. Tonight will be a hosting debut for DeNiro, who will welcome Jones as musical guest. A two-time Academy Award winner (The Godfather Part II and Raging Bull), this will be DeNiro' fourth appearance on the show, but his first time hosting. Jones, who was recently named one of Rolling Stone's "People of the Year," will perform songs from her double-platinum debut CD "Come Away With Me." Also making their SNL debuts Dec. 14 are Gore and innovative rock band Phish, who make their first appearance since their "indefinite hiatus" two years ago (after 17 years and over 1,000 shows together). The band, described by Entertainment Weekly as "The Biggest Cult Band In America," has, over the years, fostered a subculture of loyal fans that follow them from show to show much like the Grateful Dead.
