To the Editor:

Re "Happily Reunited to Go Against the Grain" by Jon Pareles Dec. 8 : One day in 1991, I climbed into Phish's van at a free concert at Potsdam College and helped Jon Fishman, clad in orange and black polka dots, unload his vacuum for the show. Since then I've seen the band synchronize notes to the bounce of audience beach balls; perform unamplified a cappella barbershop music to thousands of screaming fans; and -- considering their sales and attendance numbers -- prove that commerce need not destroy art. Welcome back, Phish -- your trampolines (and audience) await!
