The Greensboro Coliseum has established a lottery system for people seeking tickets to the upcoming Phish concert.
Coliseum officials are anticipating a heavy demand for tickets and create the lottery system so people lining up for tickets will get an equal chance at a ticket. The Coliseum has used a lottery system for concerts for which tickets are in great demand, such as N Sync and Backstreet Boys.
"Everybody at the Coliseum gets an equal opportunity to get a ticket," says Scott Johnson, the Coliseum's booking manager. "It prevents camping out over night."
The lottery system works this way:
On Friday, patrons may begin lining up at the Coliseum advance box office at 7 a.m. for their chance to obtain a lottery ticket.
Those lottery tickets will be distributed at 8 a.m. One ticket will be distributed to each patron. Just before 9 a.m., a customer from the line will draw a number from a box. That number will become the beginning of the line. For example, if 100 lottery tickets are distributed and the random number drawn is 27, then numbers 27 through 100 would be served and then numbers 1 through 26 would be served after 100.
After the line order has been established, all patrons must be in their appropriate place in line by 9:30 a.m. before tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. All tickets are $37.50.
Coliseum officials did not know Wednesday how many lottery tickets would be distributed.
