Anastasio, Copeland, Claypool wrap debut album

"You've got these three alpha dogs who are all opinionated and talented, constantly pushing and tugging at the music," says Primus' Les Claypool of his side project with former Police drummer Stewart Copeland and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio. The band, which first got together at last year's New Orleans Jazz Fest, spent this spring working on a debut album due out in October. In April they began recording in Anastasio's barn in Burlington, Vermont, before heading out to Sausalito, California, to mix and tweak in the same studio where Sly Stone cut Fresh in 1973. "There's such a cool range of influences on the album, running the gamut from acoustic fingerpicking to percussive experiments with garbage cans," Anastasio says.

Copeland agrees: "Sometimes our ideas are so far apart, why try to bridge the gap? I appreciate someone who can shake me out of my comfort zone. It's ass-backwards, but it works for Oysterhead."

Oysterhead will bring that ass-backwards charm to the fans on a two-month tour, kicking off in New Haven, Connecticut on September 14th and wrapping up on November 18th in Gainesville, Florida.
