Attention Phish fans: No ticket, no entry

Ticketless Phish fans hoping to reel in seats for tonight or tomorrow night's sold-out performances at Great Woods should be forewarned: No ticket, no entry to the venue parking lot.
Representatives of Great Woods and the band are urging fans who couldn't snag tickets to stay home and enjoy the simulcast of tomorrow night's show on WBCN. "It's been a recurring problem for us at a number of sold-out shows - sometimes shows that aren't even sold out - where people come down with no intention of buying a ticket, hoping to sneak in," said Phish manager John Paluska.
Concern prompted half-page ads in two recent issues of the Boston Phoenix asking ticketless people not to come. The simulcast with WBCN was added as a pacifier.
Security will be out in full force, Paluska said, because "we've had some fairly ugly situations with fans who really don't know how to take 'no' for an answer. It's a small microcosm of the overall crowd (but) it results in venue damage and just in general jeopardizes our relationship with the town, with the venue, with the promoter."
Credit-card patrons, VIPs, radio-contest winners or others directed to the will-call window needn't worry, according to Bruce Montgomery, Great Woods general manager. "We are setting up a temporary box office at the front of the facility," he said.
Ticketholders are also welcome to arrive early to avoid traffic. "The parking lots will not open until 3 o'clock," Montgomery said.
"It's a good feeling," said Paluska, that Phish has so many fans. "I just wish it didn't bring all of the baggage with it."
