To The Gills

In about 20 years Phish may really turn into the Grateful Dead. All these guys need is a little age, a couple of hits and a few more decades of a cult following. Until then, Phish will have to suffice as the Grateful Dead of the '90s. The band played 107 shows in 1993 before nearly 312,000 fans. Phish features Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman. The group is a favorite among college students across the land and expects to enhance its reputation with the new album "Hoist." Says Anastasio: "It's our best record, no question. We don't agonize over details, we don't fix every mistake, we kept it loose and honest." That's just the way Phish sounds in performance. Local fans will have a chance to see the band Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Arena on the University at Buffalo North Campus.
