On the town Former Boogie Kings members Jerry LaCroix, Duane Yates, G.G. Shinn and Jon Smith help Antone's owner Clifford Antone celebrate his birthday with gigs tonight and Saturday at the renowned blues club. Chicago blues legend James Cotton and guitarist Mark Mercado play the 311 Club, a new venue at 311 E. Sixth St. Kinky Friedman plays a rare local gig at Saxon Pub with several special guests, including Billy Joe Shaver and Steve Fromholz. Bill Carter brings an all-star band of local players, including guitarist Charlie Sexton and drummer Chris Slayton to the Continental Club; the Andy Van Dyke Band opens. Cannibal Club presents touring bands Don't Mean Maybe and Phish plus Last Straw. Local funk heroes Bad Mutha Goose are at Liberty Lunch with Joe Rockhead, while Mercado Caribe features Dallas funk bands Goodfoot and Wild Peach plus New Brazil.
